Surfing

South Beach of Crescent City is a favorite location for surfing along the wild rivers coast.   Though you will find surfers in the water from South Beach to Point St. George, South Beach receives the most visibility ... being right along the Hwy 101 corridor through Crescent City.

Regularly you will find dozens of cars parked along the side of Hwy 101 on South Beach.   Some are people simply beachcombing, working their dog or watching the horseback riders on the beach.   However, far more are surfers from around the area enjoying the surf at the wide stretch of beach, perfect for surfing.

For 16 years, the Rhyn Noll Longboard Classic was regularly held on South Beach, bringing in surfers from all around.  These competitions are now a memory, ending in 2011, but the surf and the space on South Beach has not changed.   Surfing is still a big part of the local scenery of South Beach (though there is a big hole in our hearts with the closing of Noll Surf and Skate in 2012).

If you enjoy surfing and are near Crescent City, or passing through ... don your wetsuit, drop your board in the water and enjoy the surf of South Beach.  Oh, and while your on South Beach, visit the South Beach Outfitters at 128 Anchor Way for your surfing information and needs in Crescent City.

Not wanting to slight other areas of Del Norte's Coastline, surfers can be found from the Mouth of the Klamath to the Oregon border.  However visitors should be aware that some of these areas away from the main surf areas from South Beach to Point St George may require surfers to be more vigulant about watch for sharks, dangerous rocks and riptides.  White Sharks are seen in the some areas.  Check with the locals about the surfing in the outlying areas, but, do  consider surfing areas such as Mouth of the Klamath Garth's Reef, Enderts Beach, and Kellog Beach.   View Wannasurf.com for a quick summary of what you my might expect at these beaches.
