Alternative Schools
While the phase "alternative school" can encompass any education that is outside the traditions ... for this site, a more restrictive definition is in use. Here, alternative school is being used to categorize schools targeting the education for these students that have been separated from the general education system for special reasons. This separation can be the result of a variety of conditions. The differentiation may be the result of disability, teenage pregnancy, potential as a dropout, violent behavior, court-adjudication, juvenile detention or other reason.

Sunset High School is a member of the Del Norte Unified School District.

McCarthy Alternate Education Center
McCarthy Alternative Education Center is a community school program operated by the Del Norte County Office of Education that serves the educational, social and emotional needs of youth who are wards of the court.

Elk Creek School
Elk Creek School is a court school program operated by the Del Norte County Office of Education in the Del Norte County Juvenile Hall. Elk Creek program is based at the county juvenile hall facility. Elk Creek serves incarcerated youth, grades 6-12, and is a full-day program.

Community Day School K-12
Community Day School is located in the Educational Resource Center building at 400 West Harding St Crescent City. This building also houses the Instructional Media Center (IMC).

Bar-O Boy's Ranch
Bar-O Boys School is a Del Norte County Office of Education program. Bar-O Boys School is a court school for boys who are wards of the court. The courts in various counties throughout the State assign boys to Bar-O.
